The Background to Laser Hair Removal

Thursday, August 30th, 2007

By Roger Overanout The disposal of superfluous hair is currently one of the foremost accepted cosmetic treatments, for both women and a soaring number of men. In addition to the ordinary and often temporary methods, employing shavers, waxing kits and electrolysis, the more high-tech procedures such as intense pulsed light and laser systems are becoming increasingly popular. Although superfluous hair is chiefly believed to be a cosmetic problem. It should be remembered that women every now and again have supplementary hair growth during both pregnancy and menopause. Additionally there are some diseases that have above average hair growth as a characteristic, but they are less common. Dermatologists are continuing with their investigation into why this approach works but it appears that the laser creates heat damage to the hair follicle checking the growth of the particular strand of hair. This happens as a result of the laser being converted into heat as it travels through the skin and being absorbed into the target, the pigment melanin, that is found in the hair follicle. When the temperature reaches a high enough level in a hair follicle during its active period, the targeted hair properties are disabled, thus checking hair re-growth. The results vary but in clinical trials periods of up to two years have been achieved before hair growth restarted. Laser hair removal is a relatively gentle process it does not need chemical preparations or painful scraping or injections, it can be used on large areas of the body in a single treatment session. Laser hair removal today is a very effective method of treatment for unwanted hair, ongoing research continues to improve the process. The ultimate goal is to achieve permanent removal of hair but this has not been achieved yet. Also you should be aware that some people do experience side effect such as redness swelling and even burns, these are rare but they do happen. If you have any doubts about Laser Hair Removal you should take qualified advice before proceeding. The vast majority of people are very happy with the results they receive. Substitute Teaching - Who Are You Today?

Wednesday, August 29th, 2007

By Jack Wilson Substitute teaching! How would the world manage without the substitute teacher? School systems would perish, children would be ignorant, contract teachers would have to work all the time, principals would jump off tall buildings and parents would cry. That is why substitute teachers are paid half the salary that contract teachers get. Fair enough; after all, the substitute doesnt have to plan everything, doesnt have to attend tedious faculty meetings where the administrator and his most ambitious teachers drone on for hours about nothing. The substitute has it cushy. Well, not entirely. No benefits. The substitute teacher never knows whether or not there will be work the next day; has to be ready to jump into the fray at the early morning behest of the district substitute clerk, or, more likely, a recorded telephone message. The substitute teacher (ST) doesnt know anyones name, doesnt know which child or teacher or administrator is harboring delusions of royalty, doesnt know where the bathrooms are, doesnt know which chair in the teachers lounge is reserved for the grand dame; oh, it is a sorry existence. But it is halfway decent work compared to telephone sales or fast food service. And it is mostly indoors. See the local school board and apply. You may have to take a test or two; usually not too hard to pass. There may be a wait for police check. We dont want convicted felons waltzing in and corrupting our children. We also worry about sex offenders. Most applicants get through. If you have to take a test on the local state and county constitution, best to study real hard because such documents have grown like Topsy and cannot be understood by mortals. In many places all you need to qualify as an ST is a bachelors degree. It doesnt matter what the subject you studied. You dont really have to know anything; it is already laid out for you. You just have to find a way to relate to the students. Some people have a real knack for that, others manage somehow. Tricks for getting control of the class: This is oriented more toward elementary classes than secondary. Secondary classes are short and pretty much self-contained. Either they are well-behaved or not. You have little to do with it. Elementary students will respond to some sort of organized discipline. The teacher of record has doubtless set up a regimen. Find out what it is and follow it. If the teacher is good at discipline and the children like that teacher, or at least respect or fear him or her, you are in luck. If not, you are going to have a stressful day. You need to be as flexible as possible. If you are a relaxed person, thank your stars. If you are uptight, you will suffer. If you know anything about operant conditioning; Skinner-type stuff, reward the desirable behavior in small increments; that sort of thing, you will flourish. If you dont know about it you would be well-advised to learn. One of the most unpleasant features of being an ST is the well-meaning contract teachers who greet you with Who are you today/ No one has ever figured out a suitable answer to that idiotic question. Better not answer in a way that shows them how stupid they are. Just smile and gulp and ask where the lunch room is. But dont go there. Beware Of Fake Diplomas!

Saturday, August 25th, 2007

By Leo Williams Heres a common story. Ellen C. dropped out of high school in the tenth grade. Shes tired of low paying jobs and wants to enroll in nursing school but needs to obtain her high school diploma or the equivalent, the GED. She goes online and enrolls in an online high school that promises to give her a GED in two weeks after she passes a quick online test. Ellen passes the test, pays her $250 and gets an official looking GED diploma in the mail. But when she tries to enroll in the nursing school they politely inform Ellen that the diploma is a fake. This familiar story plays out over and over everyday for thousands of people. Just as the Internet has become a valuable source for online education, it has also become a way for unscrupulous and dishonest companies to take advantage of people in need. For the 40 million people without a high school education, getting a diploma the fastest and easiest way seems to be the quickest road to a better job and higher income. But fast and easy is very often a waste of time and energy. How can one tell if the online school is a fake? Heres what to look for. 1. If the Internet listing says you can take the GED test online, its a fake. The GED is ONLY awarded by your state after you pass a 7 hour test IN PERSON at an official test center. 2. If the Internet listing says you can earn a high school diploma online by taking a test and a few courses, beware! The diploma you receive will not be from a nationally accredited and recognized school. Colleges and businesses will not accept it. It takes years of study to complete the coursework for a real high school diploma. 3. If the school says they are accredited, be careful. There are over a dozen so called accreditation standards and only two are the real thing. Just because a school says theyre accredited does not mean the diploma will be accepted by the college you want to apply to. The best way is to ask the college first if they recognize the online high school you are considering. 4. For GED schools find out if their courses meet the standards issued by the American Council on Education, the people who write the GED tests. You want to find out if their study program will actually prepare you for the GED. 5. Dont be mislead by website high schools that have official sounding names. Anybody can create a website and make it look authentic. The bottom line is this. . . if it sounds too good to be true, it most likely is. For people without a high school diploma the best alternative is the GED. The GED is recognized by 97% of the colleges and universities in the U.S. as equal to a high school diploma. One in seven college enrollees obtained have a GED instead of a high school diploma. The GED tests are not difficult but often require some study and preparation. The math test is the most difficult for people and requires the most study. The fastest way to get a GED is to start with a practice test first to see how one will do on the actual GED exams. Often a quick online study course will give the GED candidate all they need to pass the test. 2006 Essential Education Corporation / www.passGED.com Leonard Williams, an e-learning instructor with http://www.passGED.com, is also a curriculum specialist who focuses on research and development, implementation and assessment of best-practice learning solutions for adult learners and people with educational challenges. A Wedding Planning Checklist Can Be Incredibly Helpful

Tuesday, August 21st, 2007

By Morgan Hamilton Planning a wedding can be very stressful, and everyone needs to be organized properly. The first thing to do is to plan well in advance. They may put together a wedding in one week on the TV soaps but it’s not a good idea. Give yourself plenty of time and try to relax. There is a lot to remember, so make a wedding planning checklist and a budget plan. One will work with the other, hopefully in harmony. Whilst the bride and groom usually decide on the basic thrust of the wedding, it’s usually left to the bride’s parents to work out the details. Firstly, decide on where you want the ceremony to take place. You may want a traditional church wedding or a civic one. Couples get married in all sorts of wacky places these days, in sports stadiums and on roller coasters. Up mountains and on the beach. Draw up a short list of possibles on your wedding planning checklist, and remember that these places are sometimes booked years in advance. The venue for the reception will also have to be decided early, although you may decide to have it in a private home. If that’s the case, you could hire a marquee or two for the garden. You may want some live music on the day. Try to choose a singer or group that are versatile, then all the guests will be happy. This brings us to the guests, who are a vital component of any wedding planning checklist. Decide on who is to be invited, send out the invitations and organize a seating plan. It’s not as easy as it sounds, seating plans can cause friction for years to come. Do the best you can, you can’t please all of the people all of the time. Other considerations are the flowers, for the arrangements at the venue and the bridal bouquets. Cars need to be booked to take the various parties to the ceremony. The food for the reception must be decided on, as well as the wedding cake. Exhausted yet? The men need their morning suits, the ladies need their hats and the bride needs her wedding dress, (oh yes, the bridesmaids need their dresses too) It’s a satisfying feeling when you start to tick things off your wedding planning checklist, isn’t it? We haven’t finished yet! The bride and bridesmaids will want hair appointments at the hair salon and don’t forget to arrange the rehearsal dinner. There are just a few things left now on the wedding planning checklist. Presents for the bridesmaids, buckets of confetti, and table center pieces. The couple need to distribute their gift list. After it’s all over, it won’t just be the bride and groom that need a honeymoon. Of course, you could just hand over the wedding planning checklist to a professional wedding planner. They get paid to stress. Morgan Hamilton offers expert advice and great tips regarding all aspects concerning wedding. Dumplings: Another Stunning R & D Breakthrough

Sunday, August 19th, 2007

By John T Jones, Ph.D. This is my third article on dumplings. As reported earlier Im on a lifelong trek to find the secret of Mrs. Mullens Swedish Dumplings. She was my neighbor when I was a kid and always fed me her cooking delights when I went over to her house to do the chores. In previous articles I reported that biscuit dough from the refrigerator department of your grocery store makes better dumplings than what Ive been able to make from existing recipes. The best of these to my taste is croissant dough. After the breakthrough I describe here, Im not so sure of that. I mentioned earlier that I was afraid to try cinnamon bun dough from my grocer in soup. Then I reported that I had a delightful late-night breakthrough using cinnamon dough over seasoned peaches which gave me a sugar high that kept me awake all night. The previous articles where Dumplings: My Deepest Culinary Secret (http://www.ezinearticles.com/?id=96471) and Peaches with Cinnamon Dough Dumplings: My Amazing Late Night Vision (http://www.ezinearticles.com/?id=98660). Yesterday my thirteen Idaho grandkids showed up at church without my son and his wife. We saw most of the kids walking to church. The rest showed up later by car. But no parents. Every Sunday we have Sunday Dinner with our grandkidsexcept when the house is full of flu bugs and such. I always bring the cake. Well, the parents had the bug so I told my grandkids I would drop the cake off later. After church, I would have to cook dinner. Now that was okay for me but I had to have dumplings. When I got home, I chucked into my big pot a can of carrots, a can of mushrooms (not saving the mushroom juice for some reason), a can of chicken and rice soup, and a can of creamed chicken and vegetable soup. The later was added because I craved the creamy taste. I added salt, pepper, chicken seasoning, and just a titch of Cajon seasoning to give it a small kick. I got the mixture boiling in just a minute, reached in the refrigerator for a can of biscuit dough for the dumplingsand came up empty! Now I was in big trouble. There was a tube of cinnamon dough. Dare I overcome my hang-up about cinnamon dough dumplings on soup? I though it over. Well, this soup does have a creamy taste. That might go with sweet. I took the cinnamon roles one by one and carefully placed them on top of the boiling soup. My they looked pretty there with the soup boiling around them. But how would they taste? While they boiled the first ten minutes or so uncovered, I put the frosting that came in the tube on gram crackers. Then I put the lid on the pan and let it boil another ten minutes or so. I let the soup simmer down for a few more minutes. My wife spooned the soup and dumplings in to large bowls. WOW! Wir haben es wiederholt! This first phase is from the translator at http://babelfish.altavista.com/tr We use to say in Colorado: Wir haben es wieder gemacht! We said that when we made a breakthrough in the laboratory. But no matter how you say it in German, in English it is: We have done it again! Thats what I said to my wife. This was the best dumpling dish yet. And of course, I ate the desert. Cinnamon bun frosting is delightful on graham crackers. Ummn! The End John T. Say Goodbye To Styrofoam Containers Forever

Friday, August 17th, 2007

By Trevor Kugler Now I’m not a health nut, or member of Greenpeace, but I do have a soft spot in my heart for this rock we all live on. Especially when it comes to the rivers, streams, and lakes that fish swim in. Why? First of all, because I love to catch those fish. Not only that, but I love to catch healthy fish. I also enjoy the beauty of Nature almost as much as I do the act of fishing itself. I agree with Ralph Waldo Emerson who said, “Nature is a mutable cloud which is always and never the same.” That quote, I think, is a big reason that I spend so much time in nature, attempting to catch fish. What I don’t like when I’m out there attempting to catch fish is to see empty Styrofoam containers, that at one time carried worms, sitting along the shore. This is completely unnecessary, and there’s a simple solution to this problem. That solution is called a bait bag. I’m a huge worm fisherman, and spend 90% of my fishing time fishing with live worms. Yet I never leave a Styrofoam container along the bank of the water because I use a bait bag to carry my worms. I simply take the worms out of their Styrofoam container at my vehicle, place the worms into the bait bag, and I’m ready for a day of fishing. Using a bait bag enables the angler to leave the Styrofoam container in their vehicle to be discarded later, rather than along the water. Where do you get your hands on one of these bait bags? You can go somewhere like JRWfishing or you can make your own. An old sock works well. Just cut the toe end off and use a safety pin to attach it to your fishing vest. Using a bait bag also keeps your worms right on your body for easy access. No more digging through the container, looking for a fresh worm. The bottom line is that using a bait bag eliminates the need to carry those Styrofoam containers with you while fishing, and that means there will be many less Styrofoam containers left along the banks of our rivers, streams, and lakes. Not only that, but by using a bait bag to carry your worms, you’ll spend more time fishing and less time fumbling around for bait. Your bait will be right there at your fingertips. Are You Bigger Than Your Relationship Problems?

Thursday, August 16th, 2007

By Paul Sterling Wednesday night Kristin and I drove 2 hours down to Denver and the 2 hours back, just to hear a speaker talk for 3 hours. It was well worth it. Doug, who works for Harv Eker and Peak Potentials Training, was a great speaker. He had come to talk about money… and how it affects every part of your life, especially your primary relationship. If any of you are interested in mastering your finances and want to learn how to get money to work for you… versus you having to work for money… contact our office (see contact information at end of letter). Because I am part of the ‘ambassador program’ with Peak Potential Trainings, we can get you in to the next Millionaire Mind Intensive three-day seminar at a ridiculously low price (and yes that is a shameless plug… GO). It is well worth your weekend! Anyway, the point of this article is something Doug said midway through the evening. He drew a chart on the board - two parrell veriticles lines with me written at the top of the one to the left and ‘my problem’ written above the one to the right. He then drew a number 2 about 2/10 of the way up my line and a 5 half way up the one to the right. What he said was if you had a problem that was a level 5 on a scale of 1 -10 and your skill level was a 2 in that area… then, comparatively speaking, that would be a big, and possibly overwhelming, problem. It would be an end-of-the-relationship type problem… a going-to-kick-your-butt type problem. What he said next was that to change the situation all you had to do was to decide… decide that you will do whatever it takes - study, learn, practice, get guidance — until your skill level is an 8. Then level 5 problems are no longer a problem! If you apply this to relationship and communication skills like conflict resolution… or… clearing up misunderstandings… if you develop your skill level to a 7 or an 8… Then a problem that used to stop you in your tracks and threatened to destroy your relationship will no longer even be a problem. It will be just a challenge, or even an opportunity to create more love and understanding. I have an example of this principle from learning to kayak. When I was a beginner I was clumsy enough to get flipped over even on flat water, and being upside down, locked in my kayak… THAT WAS A PROBLEM. I would have to pull my skirt (release the water tight gasket around the cockpit) and swim to shore. Now, because I have taken lessons, practiced whenever possible and focused on developing these skills, I can go through level 3 and 4 rapids, (level 5 is the top of the scale) get flipped over and just flip myself right back up… NO PROBLEM! at least most of the time. If you are ready for things like creating intimacy and understanding, resolving conflict quickly and easily, dealing with past history and each other’s baggage to be NO PROBLEM, then take a weekend and learn these skills. Transform the way you communicate and you can transform your relationship with anyone… including yourself. Learn to deal with important, emotional issues without taking it personally or making it personal. Learn how to deal with the “HOT’ issues without attacking or defending. Is learning how to handle problems… a problem? Is it a level 2, a 5 or an 8 problem? What are you letting get in the way of the relationship of your dreams? When you stretch and grow, when you take on the challenges and become more than the problem,… Life will become more enjoyable and who you are in the relationship will expand. Will YOU be at level 2, 5 or 8? And what about those relationship issues you’ve just been pushing to the back of your mind? Are you ready to become bigger than your problems? Are you ready to learn how? Paul Sterling, after 2o years as a commercial fisherman in Alaska became a communication coach and has taught his unique tools to university professors, maximum security inmates, Buddhist Monks, high school students, parents and couples.
