Early Info on The Apple iPhone

Monday, March 31st, 2008

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Madison_Lockwood]Madison Lockwood Apple Computers (Now Apple Inc.) has recovered from years of corporate doldrums through the introduction of an innovative line of computers but more importantly, through the phenomenal success of the iPod. Apple more or less created the market for personal digital MP3 players and has sold millions of units, along with millions of songs through their online music store. Now the video world is coming into the handheld market - virtually every cell phone has a screen of some sort and the recent iPods have video screens as well. Apple’s most recent product introduction is the much-hyped iPhone, which combines the functions of a cell phone, a “wide screen” iPod with touch controls, and an Internet communications device. Apple has chosen to make an exclusive deal with Cingular, the AT&T cell phone network. Your only source for an iPhone will be through Cingular, along with a Cingular cellular service contract. They plan to make the product available in June. Back in the digital dark ages, Apple made the choice to keep their computer operating system in house, while Microsoft moved beyond IBM and licensed to any computer manufacturer who wanted it. It was the most important misstep that Apple has ever made, and is the reason that they will probably never extend beyond ten to twelve percent of the computer market. It will be interesting to see what happens when iPhone clones begin to appear in Verizon and other cell operator outlets. The 4GB iPhone model will cost $499 with a two-year contract and $599 for the 8GB version (also with a two-year contract). Those are expensive phones, but Apple is in a unique position in that it has a dedicated core of iPod fans that may become Cingular converts. The iPhone’s design is cutting edge: it has done away with keypads and with the exception of a “home” button the controls are operated on a 3.5 inch square touch screen. According to early reviews the videos and photos look great. One giant touch screen controls the phone, the picture component and the videos - no stylus needed. For text messaging, there will be an onscreen keyboard - again controlled by touch. Apple’s iTunes store has gone into the video business, most recently negotiating a distribution contract with Paramount. Videos are downloaded onto the iPhone the same way that music is: through a wired connection to your computer. Apple’s decision to push the viability of the iPhone as a video viewing device raises a couple of questions. The first is how satisfactory watching a movie on a three and a half inch screen will be, and the second is whether or not 8GB is enough to manage a library of music and video content. The current largest video iPod model has 60GB of space, in comparison. For Internet and video functionality, the iPhone runs on the most recent Mac operating system. It has a 2 megapixel camera and promises support for Google maps, conference calling, and text and multimedia messaging. In short, all the features are included that young people use their phones for today, along with increasing numbers of traveling execs. The iPhone has Bluetooth and WiFi connectivity and includes both email software and a browser. If you judge by the hype, Apple is betting big on the iPhone. It’s worth noting, however, that Steve Jobs is pretty good at hyping every new Apple product. But the integration of telecommunications, video, and full blown Internet interconnectivity into the revered iPod is a major step - and the cell service completes an impressive multimedia package. It should be interesting. Madison Lockwood is a customer relations associate for ApolloHosting.com. Marketing with Online Photo Stamps

Saturday, March 29th, 2008

By John Hinkley Every envelope looks much the same as every other envelope, and so it can be very difficult to stand out from the crowd, this is especially true for businesses. The brown or white typed envelopes that they send out arent exactly unique. At least with personal letters you can handwrite the address on the front! For a business to be successful it needs to stand out from the crowd so that it can maximize its revenue as much as possible. Here is where an online photo stamp can help set you apart from everyone else. Online Photo Stamps - A bit of innovation and design For a business to be successful it should be unique and innovative as much as possible, think of some examples. Sony is popular because although not unique, it does spend a lot of money on innovation. Innovation doesnt have to be million dollar investments; it can be small subtle changes that can put your business miles of the competition! Recent examples include the internet. Most businesses have an internet presence, however it wasnt always like this. These companies have realized the overwhelming power of the internet. Online photo stamps are another example of true innovation. The easiest way of using photo stamps is to use one of the many online services that offer such features like Stamps.com and Endicia . These companies can be used to order your stamps without leaving the comfort of your own home. Design, preview and print your online photo stamp anytime, anywhere. If your not happy with your stamp, dont print it. These companies allow you to preview everything before you decide to pay. Promotion with online photo stamps All businesses realize the need to promote or advertise themselves , why else would they give away free pens and coasters with their names on? Its all in the name of advertising! Generally people dont like being bombarded with this promotional material, as most of it is a bit annoying and redundant! A much more subtle form of promotion would use logos, company banners, or even company slogans within their online photo stamps. Perhaps even sending your customers a self addressed envelope with your customary photo stamp would help promote your company significantly over time. The uses are limitless. Will anyone notice my photo stamps? You may assume that theres no point in using photo stamps because nobody looks at the stamp right? Can you remember the last time you actually noticed a stamp on your letter? I bet you cant, but this is probably because you can see its a typical USPS stamp at a glance. The public do notice these small touches, they will study the online photo stamp and probably end up keeping it! The only trouble is, perhaps they will keep the envelope and ditch the letter! Well there is a way around this, you can send out photo postcards with your online photo stamp attached. Photo stamps are still fairly new and so if you use them to promote your business, do it now! People will find the first few really interesting, however if it becomes too common they wont be too impressed. Dont give out cheap ball point pens that never work, send out a custom online postal stamps instead! Be creative when it comes to your promotions and you just may find that business will flourish with it. Visit discountstamps online for more information on photo stamps and discount online stamps. Career Killers to Avoid

By Marcia Zidle Many professionals and managers are so involved in day-to-day crises and fighting fires that they forget about a key leadership characteristic: self-management. Effective leaders are first of all effective in managing themselves their time, their focus, their emotions and their careers. Its too late to figure out whats next for you once your company has merged, had lay offs, changed strategy or whatever. Here are the biggest mistakes leaders make in their careers. Burning bridges along the way. Each profession may seem big but, as you move up in your career, you come to realize how small each really is. Something you said or done may comes back to haunt you. Not having big enough goals. A key career stopper is setting your goals too low or not being willing to put in the time it takes to reach goals. Believing I could never do that or, Theyll never give me the go ahead means it probably wont happen. Take risks, try new things, initiate and learn and grow. Playing office politics. Some people pick the wrong battles to fight. When you get enmeshed in gossiping or office politics, you forget about the goals, mission and getting the job done. Itll lead to a lack of outcomes a career killer every time. Having a bad attitude. It kills even the most talented, said one top executive, who has observed many talented people rise and fall. Attitudes are learned, and you can improve yours daily by consciously and actively working on it. Negative attitudes slow you down, but good ones are jet fuel, enhancing all you do. Thinking that money is everything. A great salary doesnt equate to happiness. For most people executive or staff money means very little if you are truly unhappy. Job satisfaction is the number one reason people elect to find a new job. What gets you up each day excited about going to work? Take control of your career! If you don’t, who else will? An Open Letter To The American Granny

Monday, March 24th, 2008

By Mike Patrick Jr, MD Dear Granny, We know you mean well. Really, we do. And we acknowledge that your well-meaning often translates into wonderful actions. You support America’s first-time moms with your experienced advice, you volunteer to watch grandkids when they’re too sick to attend daycare, and you have taken on the noble responsibility of raising grandchildren fulltime when their parents are sick or neglectful or imprisoned. What’s more, you take on this job at a time when you should be enjoying the freedom of retirement. For these actions, we salute you. Really, we do. However, it has come to our attention that at other times your well-meaning has turned into persistent nagging. In an effort to protect your grandchildren from the idiocy of their parents, you have gone overboard. Now before you dismiss our complaint as the ramblings of a bunch of disrespectful youngins, please allow us to describe a few concrete examples of the problem. Let’s start with diet. Could you please limit your complaints to once a month? We know full well that you believe Little Johnny is starving. But you know what? We don’t share your concern. It’s okay if you feel his ribs. In case you haven’t noticed, there’s a bit of a weight problem in America today. Surprised? You shouldn’t be. After all, how many years did you pile on the food and tell us to clean our plates? Our pediatrician tells us it’s healthy for toddlers to graze–as long as they get a healthy diet with all the food groups over the course of several days. Eating only when you’re hungry and stopping when you’re full is a good habit to foster. Feeling guilty about throwing out left-overs is not. Sure, there are starving kids in other parts of the world. You taught us that. What we didn’t get was the connection between our table scrap and those starving kids. Were you going to box up the left-overs and send them to Africa? No. So please forgive us for skipping that lesson. Next, let’s talk feet. So what if they turn in or point out a little? We’ll show our doctor and we’ll let him do an examine. If he says they’re fine, we’re going with that, and we wish you would too. Look, we understand back in your day kids wore special shoes and braces to straighten out their feet. But lots of other kids didn’t get those special shoes and braces. And you know what? Most of their feet straightened out just fine. Those that didn’t straighten out completely had few long-term problems. Most could walk and run and jump and skip just fine. Our doctor will keep an eye on the feet, and if he’s concerned he’ll send us to an orthopedic specialist. You voiced your concern. We heard it. Now, please, drop it. One more example: Ears. The infections aren’t our fault. We don’t smoke around Little Johnny, and he doesn’t go to daycare anymore (since you agreed to watch him). Our pediatrician says those two things are the biggest ones we can control. The ear infections aren’t from water or wind or change of weather. They’re from mouth bacteria that get into the middle ear through the Eustachian tube, a natural connection between the throat and ear. Little Johnny has a floppy Eustachian tube. Bacteria go up the tube and get trapped when the tube flops closed. Add a little mucus from smoke or allergies or viral infections, and the situation gets worse. You can’t get rid of the mouth bacteria–they’re supposed to be there. Get rid of them and you’ll invite thrush to grow, and we don’t want that either. We’ll keep doing the antibiotics as long as our doctor tells us to, and when he suggests surgery, we’ll go with that. The antibiotics don’t stain teeth or stunt growth. Sure, antibiotic resistance is a problem. We understand that. We appreciate your keeping up with the medical literature. Still, if our doc says it’s best to stick with them, that’s what we’ll do. As we draw this letter to a close, please understand our aim is not to offend. After all, you were an excellent parent. You raised us. You have lots of experienced advice to share. But let’s face it, raising four kids is not the same as seeing 30-40 kids a day. Our pediatrician’s advice wins over yours. You may not agree with him. That’s fine. But please, let it go and stop nagging us. Love always, Your Children Copyright 2006 Mike Patrick Jr, MD Mike is an American pediatrician. Why You Must Consider The Healing Powers of Colors When Choosing Color Schemes For Your Home

Saturday, March 22nd, 2008

By Sarah H When the house construction phases requires the home owners input for painting the walls, many people tend to get overly excited. Thanks to network television Home Improvement shows, home owners want their houses outfitted with just what they saw on television. However, perhaps before racing off to the paint shops, it may be best to take a look at color significance and their respective healing powers. Chromotherapy is a method of treatment of diseases by the use of color. For many people color simply is a matter of personal opinion and choice. However, the use of color as a treatment method is used as a supportive therapy along with other natural methods of preserving health in order to rid bodily malfunctions. Practitioners of chromotherapy staunchly believe that the cause of any disease can be traced to the lack of a particular color in the human system. Thus the method of color therapy is the applied technique that is used to heal people. The method of color therapy is founded on the principles of resonant colors interaction, adjoining to frequency characteristics of body. The use of colored light can be used directly on the body to stabilize health and increase resistance strength. Colored light affects the body and the emotions and does not alter the material composition of the body, but rather the vibration aspect which is similar to homeopathy. The treatment basically involves the application of colored light to the acupuncture points on the skin with an instrument that resembles a simple pen light. It does not use needles or pierce the skin. Rather the color sensitivity of acupuncture receptors on the skin is used to absorb the colored light. Then healing information which is encoded in the light is transferred to targeted cells and the brain where it is needed. For homeowners, the knowledge of the healing powers of color for the body and mind should play a significant role in the choice of color scheme for the house. The action and effect of various colors on the body and their healing qualities are as follows: Red is symbolic of heat, fire and anger and is a stimulating and energizing color. It is usually used in the treatment of diseases like low blood pressure, rheumatism, paralysis, anaemia and advanced cases of tuberculosis. The psychological effect is that while red has proven to be a color of vitality it has been shown to be associated with anger. Although this color can be useful in dispelling negative thoughts, it can also make one irritable. Pink has the opposite effect of red. Orange is symbolic of prosperity and pride, orange is useful for stimulating blood supply and energizing the nerves. It is beneficial in the treatment of kidney and gallstones, hernia and appendicitis. It is also used to stimulate the milk producing action of breasts after childbirth. The psychological effect of orange is that it has positive affects on your emotional state. This color relieves feelings of self-pity, lack of self-worth and unwillingness to forgive. Orange opens your emotions and is a terrific antidepressant. Yellow is associated with joy and happiness, yellow is laxative and diuretic. It is a stimulant to the brain, the liver and the spleen. Similar to orange, the psychological effect of yellow is that it is associated with intellectual thinking: discernment, memory, clear thinking, decision-making and good judgment. Also Yellow builds self-confidence and encourages optimism. However, a dull yellow can bring on feelings of fear. Purple or indigo combines the blood-warming red and the cooling antiseptic blue. It is an excellent stimulant without being an irritant and exerts a soothing effect on the eyes, ears and the nervous system. Purples psychological effect is that it helps to balance the mind and transform obsessions and fears. Indigo is often associated with the right side of the brain; stimulating intuition and imagination. Violet is associated with bringing peace and combating shock and fear. Violet has a cleansing effect with emotional disturbances. Green which consists of blue and yellow, is regarded as a color of harmony. It is a mild sedative. It is useful in the treatment of nervous conditions, hay fever, ulcers, influenza, malaria, colds, sexual disorders and cancer. It preserves and strengthens eyesight. Green psychologically creates feelings of comfort, laziness, relaxation, calmness. It helps us balance and soothe our emotions. These olive green colors remind us of decay and death and can actually have a detrimental effect on physical and emotional health. Always remember that sickened cartoon characters always turned green. Blue is believed to alleviate pain, and reduce bleeding and heals burns. It is beneficial in the treatment of dysentery, colic, asthma, respiratory disorders, high blood pressure and skin aberrations. Psychologically this color is associated with the night and thus we feel relaxed and calmed. Lighter blues make us feel quite and away from the rush of the day. These colors can be useful in eliminating insomnia. Like yellow, blue inspires mental control, clarity and creativity. However, too much dark blue can be depressing. There you have it! Go choose your colors for the various rooms of your house. Investing Your Talent for God’s Glory from Matthew 25:14-30

Saturday, March 22nd, 2008

By Matthew Robert Payne PRIEST Matthew 25:14-30The Parable of the Talents 14 For the kingdom of heaven is like a man traveling to a far country, who called his own servants and delivered his goods to them. 15 And to one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one, to each according to his own ability; and immediately he went on a journey. 16 Then he who had received the five talents went and traded with them, and made another five talents. 17 And likewise he who had received two gained two more also. 18 But he who had received one went and dug in the ground, and hid his lords money. 19 After a long time the lord of those servants came and settled accounts with them. 20 So he who had received five talents came and brought five other talents, saying, Lord, you delivered to me five talents; look, I have gained five more talents besides them. 21 His lord said to him, Well done, good and faithful servant; you were faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord. 22 He also who had received two talents came and said, Lord, you delivered to me two talents; look, I have gained two more talents besides them. 23 His lord said to him, Well done, good and faithful servant; you have been faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord. 24 Then he who had received the one talent came and said, Lord, I knew you to be a hard man, reaping where you have not sown, and gathering where you have not scattered seed. 25 And I was afraid, and went and hid your talent in the ground. Look, there you have what is yours. 26 But his lord answered and said to him, You wicked and lazy servant, you knew that I reap where I have not sown, and gather where I have not scattered seed. 27 So you ought to have deposited my money with the bankers, and at my coming I would have received back my own with interest. 28 So take the talent from him, and give it to him who has ten talents. 29 For to everyone who has, more will be given, and he will have abundance; but from him who does not have, even what he has will be taken away. 30 And cast the unprofitable servant into the outer darkness. There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. PRIEST I am not going to make this a long sermon but I want to stress some points in this story that many people do not know. A talent in this story is a measure of weight and in the times of Jesus, this was a measure of weight of between sixty and eighty pounds. If this was silver then five talents would make a person very rich. Today he would be more then a millionaire. Well everyone wants to be a millionaire. People say that it takes money to make money, so let say I gave you one talent. Lets say I gave you $200,000. How many of you couldnt make some money out of that? Don Its good to see you in church. Tell me, you used to be a fisherman. Would two hundred thousand dollars set you up in a good trawler? DON I could Captain one and manage another two with that sort of money.PRIEST Well Jesus is making a point here. How lazy would a person be if they had two hundred thousand dollars and put it under their bed and did nothing with it. If you have a talent, God wants you to use that talent and do good for Him and humanity. Dont push your talents aside and go after money and waste all that money keeping up with the Jones. You can never have a better car and a better house and a better looking garden then your neighbours. If your talent is knitting, a few dollars a month can have you knitting jumpers in front of the TV and missionaries in poor countries can do a lot of good with those jumpers. What is little money here in Australia is plenty of money in Africa and China. If you have been given a gift from God, dont squander your life coveting your neighbours possessions and working to have all the best of everything, take some time and money and invest in your talent and become so good at it that it brings in a great reward for God. If you are a good sower, sow things and let people who are poor be blessed. You never know how a poor person may come to love your God when its your jumper keeping them looking smart and warm during a cold winter. If your gift is singing. Dont worry about singing up on the lead microphone come and sing in the choir and sing as part of a team. Sing your heart out and get lessons and get better at singing. Who knows one day you might even record a few songs and people could be really blessed with what you do. If you are good at something, dont chase money and success with your life, invest some time and money into your talent and make it shine so that the God who gave it to you may get some credit for His wonderful gift He gave you. There are plenty of people who dont know God who make their talents shine without Him. Dont bury your talent, invest it like they have. I pray that all your readers are blessed by this passage out of a screenplay I am currently writing. I think the priest did a nice short but meaningful sermon on the talents. I pray that you would use your talents to Gods glory. Matthew shares his heart in these articles and can be found at http://www.online-prayer.net You can read more of his articles at his link below. If you want a copy of his upcoming book of articles which will have the first sixty of the articles on this web-site called “The Musings of a Mad Prophet” please contact Matthew via email so he can contact you around February 2007 to tell you of the progress of the book. Practical Ecology - How to Plant A Tree

Thursday, March 20th, 2008

By James F. Burns It is a great investment in the value of your home, and a great investment in the future! What is it? Planting trees! When deciding to plant a tree, think about the areas where you intend to plant. Look for such problems as overhead power lines. Will the tree eventually grow into the line? Check to make sure there are no underground obstacles like water, sewer, or power lines. Most utility companies can make sure the right people check this and mark the lines before you start to dig. Don’t plant a tree where it’s roots will invade your septic system, or crack the foundation of your home.Think about other trees and plants nearby, and how the new addition will effect them, both now and when it grows to maturity. Will the tree “shade out” your lawn as it grows? Will it shade out other plants, and if so, will this be acceptable? What type of soil do you have, and will you need to amend it? If so, you will need to have these things on hand. What type of tree will you plant? Make sure that it is appropriate for your area. Check with your counties extension agency if you are not sure. Now you have the preliminaries out of the way, dig a hole and chuck it in!!!!! NO, there is more to it than that! Now you know where you want to plant, you have made certain that there are are no overhead or underground obstacles or dangers, you have an appropriate tree for your area and all the amendments you will need. What are you waiting for? Dig that hole! Dig the hole quite a bit wider than the root ball, but no deeper. This is to prevent settling. Remove the tree from the pot, if it is really root bound, you may want to disturb the root ball a bit, by separating out some of the root a little or making a few slices. Don’t overdo it. Set the root ball in the hole very carefully, don’t strain your back, and watch out for that pesky limb that seems to want to slap you on the noggin. Mix some soil and some mulch material together to fill in the sides. Make sure the tree is setting straight, that is, “plumb” in the hole. Back fill with the mix and tamp it firmly in. If you are using root stimulator, and I like to use it, follow the label directions for it’s use, build a small berm around the tree with the remaining soil, tamp it down, and water it in. Make sure you don’t have any air pockets, fill in where needed. If your tree needs to be staked, to keep it from being blown over in the wind, put at least two stakes down, by driving them into the ground at opposite sides, and at an angle away from the tree. Don’t put much pressure on the tree when you tie it off. I usually use a short length of garden hose, slid over the rope, as a buffer between the tree and the rope. One thing you need to remember, especially if the tree isn’t always in plain sight, is, not to leave the rope on the tree so long that it grows into, or as we say, “girdles” the tree. Use the berm you built as a reservoir to water the tree as needed, then pat yourself on the back, and watch it grow! Romance - Guys Keep The Romance In Your Relationship and Keep Your Partner With You

Monday, March 17th, 2008

By Everte Farnell I know in my last marriage I really let the romance go. She followed it shortly after. I am making no such mistake this time. OK, this is going to be short and sweet. Over the next week I want you to go up to your lady and stop her from doing what she is doin’ and sing to her and dance. I know you probably sing like me, I have made dogs howl (literally). That’s ok, just sing a love song and dance with her. Another day, get a rose, or roses and bring them to her. Another day, draw her a warm bath when she isn’t expecting it. Another day, look into her eyes and tell her that she is the most important woman in the world. Another day, make some borderline crude comment about how good she looks. Don’t be insulting. I like ‘Girl, I hate to see ya go but I love to watch ya leave!’ I know what your saying, that stuff is stupid. It is trite and ridiculous, and a waste of time. I agree, but just do it and see what happens. Seriously, do it, as stupid and silly as it sounds. The rewards are worth far more than the effort. By the way, if any ladies are reading this, we really do think all this stuff is silly. We do it because y’all like it, and at the end of the day that’s what matters.
